Liverpool’s Alexis Mac Allister Stays Firm on Contract Standoff as Departure Looms

Body:
Liverpool midfielder Alexis Mac Allister has publicly confirmed that his situation with the club remains unchanged as discussions on a contract renewal stall. The talented Argentine player, whose current deal runs until 2028, expressed his desire to renew, yet the club has opted not to extend his contract this year while granting lucrative deals to teammates Ryan Gravenberch and Dominik Szoboszlai.

The Reds have faced significant departures in 2026, including Mohamed Salah and Andy Robertson, who both left on free transfers, as well as Ibrahima Konate. Curtis Jones also departed for Inter amidst contract expiration concerns. As Liverpool navigates these transitions, the focus now shifts to the futures of key players such as Virgil van Dijk and Alisson Becker, who are also set to leave as their contracts expire in 2027.

Mac Allister, who has started the season impressively and emerged as one of the club’s most important players under manager Andoni Iraola, voiced his frustration during a recent interview with Sky Sports. Despite his strong performances, there has been no movement from Liverpool regarding a new contract. Instead, it appears the club may look to sell him in early 2024 to ensure they receive a transfer fee, rather than risk losing him for nothing at the end of his deal.

As the current season progresses, the likelihood increases that this year may be Mac Allister’s last with Liverpool.
