Wales Set to Face Denmark and Italy in League A Rematch

Wales to Compete Against Denmark, Italy, and Iceland in Upcoming Nations League A Matches

Wales will confront Denmark, Italy, and Iceland when they re-enter Nations League A next year. Under the guidance of Rhian Wilkinson, the Welsh team previously faced challenges in the top division back in 2025, suffering two defeats against both Denmark and Italy.

The team’s past season saw them finish bottom of the group despite securing draws home and away against group winners, Sweden, leading to relegation to the second-tier League B. However, Wales has now secured their promotion back to League A after topping Group B1 during the qualification for the 2027 Women’s World Cup, going unbeaten against Czech Republic, Albania, and Montenegro.

While UEFA has yet to announce the fixtures for the 2027 Nations League, the competition is set to unfold during the international windows in February/March, April, and June. Wilkinson’s squad hopes that these Nations League matches will be useful for their preparation for what could be their first appearance at a World Cup finals.

After defeating Albania 4-0 on aggregate in a recent World Cup play-off semi-final, Wales is gearing up for a final showdown against Norway. The home leg will take place at Cardiff City Stadium on Tuesday, December 1, followed by an away match four days later. However, securing victory against a Norway team managed by former Wales boss Gemma Grainger may not guarantee a direct spot in Brazil next summer, due to the intricate qualification process.

In the event of an upset victory against Norway, Wales might still need to navigate inter-confederation play-offs next February to ensure their place in the World Cup finals.

The Nations League format will also influence qualification for the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles and the subsequent Women’s Euros in Germany in 2029. Teams winning each League A group will advance to the Nations League finals in October, earning a spot at the expanded LA Games, while the bottom teams will face relegation to League B. Each third-placed team in League A will enter a relegation/promotion play-off against a second-placed team from League B.
