Jose Mourinho Finalizes Real Madrid Coaching Staff Changes
While most of the spotlight at Real Madrid this summer focuses on first-team changes—including four new signings and the arrival of head coach Jose Mourinho, who replaces Alvaro Arbeloa—the club is also undergoing significant adjustments within its coaching staff.
As Diario AS reports, the Portuguese manager has implemented two key updates to finalize the team that will support him at the Merengue first team. These changes include the appointment of physiologist Sandro Carrico and the departure of goalkeeping coach Luis Llopis, who previously oversaw successful campaigns under Carlo Ancelotti and Zinedine Zidane.
Carrico joins several other professionals Mourinho brought over from Benfica, a group that includes Joao Tralhao, Pedro Machado, Roberto Merella, Antonio Dias, and Nuno Santos.
Santos steps in as the new goalkeeping coach, replacing Llopis. Although he also arrived from Benfica, Santos shares a long history with Mourinho, having worked alongside the manager during his previous tenures at Tottenham, Roma, and Benfica. Their professional relationship dates back to Mourinho’s early career as a goalkeeping coach at Vitoria de Setubal, where he trained Santos as a player.
Regarding Llopis, it remains unclear if Real Madrid will reassign him to a different role, but he will no longer work with the first team. Mourinho decided to take on another long-term employee of the club, Antonio Pintus, as part of his staff, but he did not retain Llopis for this new project.
Real Madrid has updated the coaching staff list on its official website, and the club expects these individuals to collaborate effectively to help the team reach its objectives for the upcoming season.
