Andoni Iraola Praises In-Form Liverpool Star: “He Will Deliver”

Andoni Iraola Supports Alexander Isak as Liverpool’s Key Goal Scorer

Alexander Isak has begun the season by fulfilling the pivotal role of an elite striker, already netting seven goals, including one off the bench during the Champions League loss to Fenerbahce. Liverpool head coach Andoni Iraola is clearly aware of Isak’s capabilities.

Iraola’s assessment was straightforward. “Alex is a top goalscorer,” he stated. “If we can position him to score, he will deliver. It’s not a guarantee, but it’s the closest thing to a guarantee almost.” This perspective emphasizes Liverpool’s approach: they do not require Isak to perform every function; rather, they need him in key positions to finish plays.

Isak Provides Clarity in Liverpool’s Attack

Iraola’s remarks reveal Liverpool’s strategy to build their attack around the Swedish international. He commended Isak’s movement and technical skills, stating, “Like every player, he can add more things to his game. We want to utilize his strengths; he is very effective at attacking spaces, moving through channels, and coming to receive the ball. I believe he is technically proficient.”

“We are trying to use him in the best way.”

This approach demonstrates effective coaching. Isak’s abilities extend beyond simply finishing in the penalty area; he can stretch defenses, run into channels, and connect plays seamlessly. This versatility adds complexity to Liverpool’s front line, making him more challenging to defend against.

Bradley Barcola Offers Additional Options for Iraola

Iraola also discussed Bradley Barcola, who played through the center in Turkiye, a shift from his usual position on the wing. His response was clear. “Bradley is a winger,” he remarked. “Mostly, he has played as a left winger, sometimes as a right winger, but he has also played as a striker at PSG.”

“It’s something I wanted to try. I believed he could be a threat against their center-backs, especially in behind.”

“However, he is primarily a winger and will be used as such 90 percent of the time. But there are alternatives I want to explore. I experimented with Cody [Gakpo] against Chelsea in the Carabao Cup. Not necessarily from the start, but during the game, I think these are options we can use when Alex is fatigued and we require a different type of striker. We have other strikers available, but wingers can also fulfill that role.”

Liverpool’s Attack Centers on Flexibility and Efficiency

The larger picture is clear. Iraola recognizes that his first-choice striker is Alexander Isak. He also aims for flexible attacking options to adapt as matches progress. Utilizing Barcola in a central role is an option rather than a fundamental change in strategy. The core of Liverpool’s attack remains focused on getting the ball to Isak in critical areas, and given his current form, this strategy appears to be the most effective.
