Andoni Iraola Seeks Smart Free Transfer for 31-Year-Old FIFA World Cup Winner

Liverpool Eyes Marcos Llorente to Bolster Roster Ahead of Transfer Window

Liverpool is reportedly looking to enhance its squad by targeting both a right-back and a midfielder. Conor Bradley and Jeremie Frimpong have struggled to fill the void left by Trent Alexander-Arnold, while Dominik Szoboszlai and other midfielders have taken temporary roles. Currently, Ronald Araujo, who is on loan, holds the starting position.

The future of the Uruguayan international at the club remains uncertain, and manager Andoni Iraola is facing a shortage of midfielders following the summer transfer window. With Stefan Bajcetic and Curtis Jones having left on permanent deals, and Harvey Elliott joining Valencia on loan, the team could benefit from an additional experienced player in the midfield—especially since Ryan Gravenberch is not in top form.

One potential solution for Liverpool is to pursue Marcos Llorente, according to reports. The 31-year-old Atlético Madrid full-back and midfielder has emerged as a target as club decision-makers explore options to strengthen the team for next summer. Llorente is out of contract at the end of the season but is currently engaged in discussions with Atlético Madrid regarding a contract extension. If an agreement is not reached soon, he will be eligible to negotiate with foreign clubs starting in January.

Llorente, who was a member of Spain’s victorious FIFA World Cup squad last summer, has shown impressive form at Anfield, having scored five goals in three appearances, including a goal earlier this season against Liverpool. However, interest in Llorente is heating up, with Chelsea and Manchester City also reportedly keen on securing his services as a potential standout free transfer next summer.
