Barcelona Scouts Young Defender Jordan Arnolin During Match Against FC Porto
Barcelona is closely watching Portuguese defense prospect Jordan Arnolin after sending a scout to observe the 18-year-old during Estoril Praia’s recent 0-4 loss to FC Porto, according to a report from SPORT.
The report indicates that a representative from the Catalan club attended the match at Estadio do Dragao to evaluate the young player, who was making his first start for Estoril Praia. Despite the heavy defeat for his team, Arnolin showcased his versatility and capability to play in various positions.
Barcelona Impressed by Arnolin’s Versatility
Arnolin primarily plays as a centre-back but is also capable of fulfilling roles as a full-back or defensive midfielder, similar to Barcelona’s youth talent Xavi Espart. In the match against Porto, he lined up in defensive midfield, contributing 62 minutes of play.
Despite Estoril’s struggles, Arnolin recorded impressive stats, including 26 interventions, seven defensive contributions, six clearances, and three interceptions. He successfully completed 13 out of 15 passes, although he won only one of his three duels.
While his performance wasn’t extraordinary, it is important to note that it was his debut start for the club.
Brighton and Lille Join Barcelona in Scouting Efforts
According to the report, Barcelona wasn’t the only club interested in Arnolin, as scouts from Brighton and Lille were also present at the Estadio do Dragao observing the teenager. The presence of representatives from three European teams may elevate interest in his development as he begins to secure more playing time at the senior level. However, there are currently no signs that any of these clubs have made a formal inquiry regarding Arnolin.
Deco Yet to Decide on Pursuing Arnolin
For Barcelona, Arnolin represents a potential long-term investment in defense rather than an immediate addition to Hansi Flick’s first team. The club’s scouting department has a solid track record, highlighted by successful acquisitions like Hamza Abdelkarim. Arnolin’s positional flexibility could appeal to the club’s recruitment efforts, but the next steps will hinge on whether Deco and his recruitment team decide that his progress merits a formal pursuit.
