Chessum Signs Multi-Year Deal with Leicester

Leicester Tigers Captain Ollie Chessum Signs Multi-Year Contract Extension

Leicester Tigers captain Ollie Chessum has officially signed a new multi-year contract, ensuring his continued presence at Welford Road. The 26-year-old lock has made 88 appearances for the team since rising through the Tigers academy and was named club captain prior to the 2025/26 season. Additionally, he played a key role in the squad that won the 2022 Premiership title.

This contract extension arrives shortly after fellow England international Jack van Poortvliet also pledged his future to Leicester.

Leicester head coach Geoff Parling expressed his satisfaction with Chessum’s development as a leader. He noted, “Those young lads who have come through the academy have been developed here; they are hungry for the team to do well. The fans can identify themselves in them because they see a local player playing, which is really important, and they are quality players as well.”

Parling praised Chessum’s evolution as a captain, stating, “Ollie has really developed as a captain; he’s really pushing on, he’s a great driver of what we do, and he’s well supported from other players.” He added that early impressions of Chessum during training were positive, highlighting his commitment to improvement and alignment with the coaching philosophy.

“He’s got some characteristics that I really wanted in a skipper,” Parling concluded, affirming his trust in Chessum’s leadership.
