Herrera Could Have Joined Barcelona
Herrera gained recognition during his tenure at Athletic Club before moving to Manchester United. He later played for PSG, returned to Athletic, spent time at Boca Juniors in Argentina, and then marked his return to his childhood club Real Zaragoza this summer.
Now, Herrera has addressed the transfer rumors linking him to Barcelona at various times throughout his career, confirming that while interest existed, it never resulted in an offer.

“There’s been a lot of speculation over the years – there was talk when I was at Athletic Bilbao, and there was talk when I was at Manchester United – but it’s true that there’s never actually been an offer,” he stated, as quoted by SPORT.
He continued to clarify that while the current La Liga champions “did have discussions with my agent, but I wasn’t present at those meetings,” he wanted it to be clear that there was never “a formal offer on the table.”
Interest in Playing for Barcelona or Real Madrid
In response to Suarez’s question about his desire to play for Barcelona, Herrera recognized the prestige of donning the jerseys of either the Blaugrana or Real Madrid, Spain’s two dominant clubs.

Despite this, he emphasized that “I’m not a fan of either of them; I support Real Zaragoza.”
Barcelona has been home to many skilled midfielders over the years, leaving fans curious about how a player like Herrera might have integrated into the team’s strategy and setup. The discussions between the club and his representative illustrate that the interest appeared to be authentic, yet it ultimately did not transition into an official offer.
