Senegal Falls to Belgium in World Cup Upset
The Lions of Teranga faced a dramatic reversal as they were eliminated from the 2026 World Cup by Belgium’s Red Devils in the round of 32. This match, held on July 1, saw Senegal leading for 85 minutes before succumbing to the Belgian side.
The defeat has left Senegal reflecting on missed opportunities. Krepin Diatta expressed his disappointment, emphasizing that the team had the chance to secure a win but ultimately fell short.
“We shouldn’t have lost that match at that moment,” Diatta commented. “The team lacked character. In the final minutes, we had to give it our all; even if it meant getting stuck in to win the challenges, we had to do it. There are things we need to review. We fell short. There are no excuses. The people deserve better.”
