Olympique Lyonnais Manager Set to Join Sporting CP in Portugal
Olympique Lyonnais manager is leaving France this afternoon to travel to Portugal, where he is expected to sign a contract to take charge at Sporting CP, according to a report from Foot Mercato.
The Portuguese manager has engaged in discussions with Sporting CP for several days. Lyon has been willing to facilitate the deal due to their ongoing financial challenges, despite satisfaction with Fonseca’s performance at the club. OL is likely to receive a fee of approximately €5 million from Sporting CP, while the manager’s salary at the club was notable.
Fonseca expressed deep emotion during Sunday’s 2-0 victory over SCO Angers, and he informed the Lyon dressing room of his departure the following day. Foot Mercato reports that he will sign a contract with Sporting CP that extends until 2030. His assistant, Jorge Maciel, is expected to remain at Lyon for the time being, overseeing the final two matches against Real Sociedad and Stade Brestois before the international break. Following that, Carlos Vicens is anticipated to assume the managerial role at Groupama Stadium.
