Milan Rejects Porto’s Offer for Santiago Gimenez Amid Concerns Over Fee Structure

Milan has turned down an offer from Porto for Santiago Gimenez, as the club remains unpersuaded by the terms proposed by the Portuguese side.

According to Fabrizio Romano, the bid from Porto revolved around a free loan, accompanied by an option to buy set at €15 million, which could convert to an obligation if particular conditions were satisfied. However, Milan rejected this structure outright, viewing the proposed amount as too low for a permanent transfer and asking for a higher figure.

In terms of negotiations, Porto does have an advantage: Gimenez has reportedly consented to the move after discussions with head coach Francesco Farioli. This personal agreement bolsters Porto’s position, yet a financial agreement between the two clubs remains elusive.

The Mexican forward, who joined Milan from Feyenoord for more than €30 million in January 2025, has faced challenges with fitness and form, netting seven goals and six assists over 37 appearances. An ankle injury sustained during the World Cup has further hampered his preparation, sidelining him for the entire pre-season.

With Gonçalo Ramos now the primary choice for the team under Ruben Amorim, Milan perceives little opportunity for Gimenez this season. Nonetheless, they are reluctant to sanction his departure for what they consider an inadequate fee. For Porto to finalize this deal before the transfer window closes, they will need to enhance their financial offer.

Milan have turned down an offer from Porto for Santiago Gimenez, with the club unconvinced by the structure of the Portuguese giants’ proposal.

According to Fabrizio Romano, via MilanNews24, Porto’s bid was built around a free loan with an option to buy set at €15m, a clause that would convert into an obligation if certain conditions were met.

Gimenez has already agreed to Porto switch

Porto do have one significant factor working in their favour: Gimenez has reportedly already given his consent to the switch, having held talks with head coach Francesco Farioli.

That personal agreement strengthens Porto’s position, but it still leaves the two clubs needing to close the financial gap.

The Mexican has struggled for fitness and form since arriving from Feyenoord for over €30m in January 2025, managing seven goals and six assists in 37 appearances, and has been hampered by an ankle injury since the World Cup that kept him out of pre-season entirely.

With Gonçalo Ramos now first choice under Ruben Amorim, Milan see little role for Gimenez this season, but they remain unwilling to let him go for what they view as an undervalued fee. Porto will need to improve their offer if they want to get a deal over the line before the window closes.
