FC Barcelona eyes potential financial windfall from Sergi Dominguez transfer
The future of former La Masia talent Sergi Dominguez could provide FC Barcelona with an unexpected financial boost this summer.
The young central defender, who developed through La Masia before moving to Dinamo Zagreb last summer, continues to attract interest from clubs across Europe.
While a transfer remains possible this summer, it will not come cheaply.
Among the clubs tracking the defender are Serie A giants Lazio, who are scouting for a replacement for Mario Gila, alongside several other teams from Europe’s top divisions.
Dinamo Zagreb set their valuation
According to reports from Mundo Deportivo, Dinamo Zagreb have established their asking price. The Croatian champions will not consider selling Dominguez for less than €14 million.
The 20-year-old Spanish defender remains under contract with the club until 2029, which gives them a strong negotiating position.
Barcelona sold the defender to Dinamo Zagreb for €1.2 million, but they negotiated a clause entitling them to 20 percent of any future capital gain generated by his sale.
A potential windfall for Barcelona
If Dinamo Zagreb sells Dominguez for their €14 million asking price, Barcelona would receive approximately €2.8 million through the sell-on clause.
Additionally, the Catalan club would benefit from FIFA’s training compensation mechanism.
Since Barcelona developed the defender at La Masia between 2020 and 2025, they are entitled to receive an estimated €270,000 in training compensation should a transfer occur.
Combined, the transaction could generate nearly €3 million for the club.
Dinamo under no pressure to sell
Dinamo Zagreb believe Dominguez still has significant room for development and expect his market value to rise if he enjoys another season of regular first-team football.
With no immediate financial pressure to sell, the Croatian club can afford to be patient and reject offers that do not meet their valuation.
For Barcelona, the situation remains a point of interest. Although they no longer control the player’s future, any significant transfer could provide an unexpected financial return thanks to the clauses negotiated when Dominguez departed La Masia.
