Headline: West Ham United Appoints Scott Parker as New Head Coach
West Ham United has officially named former midfielder Scott Parker as their new head coach, signing him to a two-and-a-half-year contract. The 46-year-old takes over from Nuno Espirito Santo, who was dismissed on Tuesday following a disappointing start to the Championship season.
Parker has a history of success in leading teams to promotion from the Championship, previously managing Fulham, Bournemouth, and Burnley. He has been without a club since leaving Burnley in April, after their relegation from the Premier League.
He will make his debut in charge of the team on Wednesday, as West Ham prepares to face Cardiff City in the Championship. Assisting Parker will be first-team coaches Steve Potts, Gerard Prenderville, and Billy Lepine, along with former teammate Mark Noble, who will collaborate closely with him in his role as sporting director. The club plans to announce additional members of the backroom staff in the near future.
In a statement on the club’s website, Parker expressed pride in returning to a club that holds significant meaning for him and his family. “There was a warmth, a love, a feeling that I probably didn’t have anywhere else. There was something which stood out constantly, and that was the relationship I built up with the fanbase here. That rapport and respect, I felt instantly,” he said.
Parker emphasized his excitement about the opportunity, stating, “I feel privileged and honoured to be the guy that wants to lead us back to the Premier League and be the head coach of this football club at this moment in time.” He conveyed his enthusiasm with, “My energy levels, my enthusiasm, my desire, my passion – it’s absolutely running through, and that’s the feeling I had as soon as there was a conversation that this was possible. That’s exactly why I’m here and why I want to be here.”
